What this document is

TM.89 (ตม.89 คำขอรับการตรวจลงตรา, Application for Visa Non-O-X) is the application of a foreigner in Thailand for the long-stay Non-O-X visa. This visa is granted to retirees aged 50 or over from the participating countries, usually for up to 10 years (5 + 5).

The form is bilingual (Thai and English), two pages, addressed to the Immigration Officer. It is submitted together with the STM.5 acknowledgement of conditions.

Who files it and where

  • a foreigner aged 50 or over who is a national of a country in the Non-O-X programme (for example Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada and several European countries); check the list of countries with the immigration office;
  • it is submitted at the immigration office for your place of residence (the form is published by Bangkok Immigration);
  • according to the form, the application must be made in person;
  • the form states a fee of 10,000 baht, not refunded if the application is refused; check the current fee with the office.

What the form asks for

  • the immigration office and the date of application (Buddhist Era year, พ.ศ.);
  • title (Mr./Mrs./Miss — circled), family name, first name, middle name, age, date and place of birth, nationality;
  • passport number, date and place of issue, expiry date;
  • current visa, mode of transport, where you arrived from, port and date of arrival, TM.6 card number (if any);
  • the reason for the application (usually Retirement);
  • your address in Thailand and the details of the person who wrote the application;
  • signature or right thumb print — by hand; a 4×6 cm photo is pasted on.

Documents usually brought along

  • passport and copies of the photo page, current visa and last entry stamp;
  • a 4×6 cm photo;
  • the signed STM.5 acknowledgement of conditions;
  • proof of funds in a Thai bank (under the STM.5 conditions, at least 3,000,000 baht in the first year) and health insurance;
  • proof of address, such as the TM.30 receipt.
