What TM30 is

TM30 (Thai: ตม.30) is the Thai Immigration Bureau form by which the house master, owner or possessor of a residence notifies the authorities that a foreigner is staying there. The legal basis is Section 38 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979).

The form is bilingual (Thai and English). Page 1 holds the owner's details, the address where the foreigners stay and the arrival date; page 2 lists the foreigners: name, nationality, passport number, date of arrival, visa type, permitted stay, point of entry, arrival card number and relationship to the owner.

Who files it and when

The duty lies with the house master, owner or possessor of the residence — the landlord, house owner or manager. Hotels file for their guests themselves.

The deadline is 24 hours from the foreigner's arrival at the residence; this is printed on the form itself.

  • Foreigners normally do not file TM30 themselves, but often help the owner with the data and copies.
  • Many immigration offices expect a new notification after the foreigner returns from abroad, even to the same address. Practice varies — check with your office.

Where to file

According to the notes on the form: in Bangkok — the Immigration Division; in other provinces — the local immigration office, or the local police station where there is no immigration office.

The Immigration Bureau also accepts notifications online through its service for property owners (registration required). See immigration.go.th for the current options.

Documents usually attached

  • the TM30 form completed and signed by the owner;
  • a copy of the owner's Thai ID card (passport for a foreign owner) and of the house registration book (ทะเบียนบ้าน) or title document;
  • the lease agreement if the notifier is not the owner;
  • copies of the foreigner's passport pages: photo page, visa, latest entry stamp, and the arrival card if one was issued;
  • a letter of authorisation if someone else submits the documents.

Requirements differ between offices — check with yours before you go.

Late filing

The Immigration Act provides a fine for the person who fails to notify on time (Section 77; public sources usually cite up to 2,000 baht). The actual amount in your case is decided by the immigration office — please check with them.

Why the foreigner needs the TM30 receipt

The lower part of page 1 — the “Receipt of notification” (ใบรับแจ้ง) — stays with the notifier after filing. It is often requested for extensions of stay, 90-day reports (TM47), residence certificates, driving licences and work permits. Keep it with your passport copy.
