What this document is

The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Registration Application is filed with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to register an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone). The form is in English, two pages, addressed to the CAAT Director General.

The same form covers three types of request: new registration, renewal of the registration and a certificate of registration for customs clearance. It covers drones of 2 kg or less and of more than 2 kg up to 25 kg.

Who files it

  • a natural person — a Thai citizen or a foreigner (a foreigner gives the passport number);
  • a juristic person — a company or partnership;
  • a government agency or state enterprise (it has its own part of the form; FoxDocs does not fill that part).

What the form asks for

  • date, type of request and the drone weight category;
  • applicant details: name, age, date of birth, nationality, passport, occupation and income, address and contacts — or company details;
  • who will control the drone (up to three people);
  • purpose: recreation and sports, aerial filming, science, commercial use, etc.;
  • model and manufacturer, number of rotors, registration mark (if already issued), serial number, weight with battery, equipment, maximum altitude, controller frequency;
  • insurance and the areas where you plan to fly;
  • a declaration that the data is true and the signature of the applicant or company representative.

Documents usually attached

  • per the form footnote — third-party liability insurance (bodily harm, loss of life, property damage) with a limit of more than 1 million baht per occurrence;
  • per the form footnote — three sets of copies of personal information and documents of the applicant (or company director) and of each pilot;
  • for a company — a registration certificate issued not more than 30 days earlier, whose objectives include piloting UAVs (aerial filming, video, research, etc.).

The form does not state the full list of documents, how to submit, fees or processing times — check them on the CAAT website or with the CAAT Economic Regulation Department (contacts are printed on the form). Drones with radio transmitters may also need a separate NBTC registration — check in advance.
