What this form is

TM.22 (ตม.22, “Application for Non-Quota Immigrant Visa”) is the request of a foreigner who holds a Thai Certificate of Residence (ใบสำคัญถิ่นที่อยู่, permanent residence) for a visa that lets them come back and continue living in Thailand as a resident after a trip abroad.

The form is bilingual (Thai and English) and is filed with the Immigration Bureau before departure.

Who files it

  • holders of a Thai Certificate of Residence who are going abroad and want to keep resident status;
  • the applicant files in person — the form says “Application must be made in person”;
  • if someone else writes the form for the applicant, that person fills in page 2 (name, Thai ID card, address) and signs it.

What the form asks for

  • place and date of writing (the year in the Thai date line is in the Buddhist Era);
  • title, family name, first and middle name as in the passport; age, nationality and race;
  • Certificate of Residence: TM form no., number, place and date of issue;
  • the endorsement for leaving the Kingdom: number, place, date and validity;
  • passport: number, date and place of issue, expiry date;
  • destination, mode of transport and departure date;
  • single or multiple visa — tick one box;
  • signature or right thumb print — by hand.

Documents usually brought along

  • passport and the Certificate of Residence;
  • the document with the endorsement for leaving the Kingdom;
  • one 4 x 6 cm photograph — the form itself says it is attached;
  • copies of these documents, if the office asks for them.

The form prints a fee of 1,900 baht for a single and 3,800 baht for a multiple visa. Fees, the document list and processing time may change — check with the Immigration Bureau before you go.
