What this document is

Mod.02 (“Cambio de titularidad y notificación de venta de vehículos”) is the official form of Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). The buyer uses it to register the car in their name (cambio de titularidad), and the seller to report that the car has been sold (notificación de venta) so that they are no longer liable for its fines.

The form is in Spanish: one page to fill in and one page of instructions. FoxDocs types your data into the fields of the official PDF without changing its layout.

Who files it and where

  • change of ownership — the buyer (or both parties together) within 30 days of the sale;
  • notice of sale — the seller within 10 days of the sale;
  • submit at the Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico with an appointment (cita previa) or online at sede.dgt.gob.es;
  • a DGT fee (tasa) is charged for the change of ownership; check the current amount on the DGT website;
  • before filing, the buyer usually pays the regional transfer tax (ITP, form 620 in most regions) and attaches the receipt.

What the form asks for

  • the procedure: change of ownership or notice of sale;
  • the vehicle: registration number (matrícula), date of first registration, service type (B-00 for a private car), CET and CEMA codes if any;
  • the vehicle’s new address — the buyer’s padrón address: street type and name, number, block, entrance, staircase, floor, door, postcode, province, municipality, town;
  • the buyer: NIF/NIE, date of birth, name, two surnames, IAE code (companies), e-mail and phone; guardian if the buyer is a minor;
  • the seller: NIF/NIE, name and surnames;
  • other remarks, ITP exemption statement, place and date; signatures are handwritten.

Documents usually brought along

  • the Mod.02 form signed by the seller and the buyer;
  • ID of both parties (DNI, NIE/TIE) — DGT does not accept a passport without an NIE;
  • the sale contract (contrato de compraventa) or other transfer document;
  • the vehicle’s permiso de circulación and a valid ITV (roadworthiness test);
  • receipts for the ITP and the DGT fee;
  • check the exact list for your case on the DGT website.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Tell the chat in any language whether you are the seller or the buyer, and give the vehicle details.
  2. The assistant fills the boxes in capital letters, splits the address into the DGT boxes and ticks the right options.
  3. Download the PDF, check it, print, sign and submit it to Tráfico.

Frequently asked questions

Who files Mod.02 — the seller or the buyer?

The buyer files the change of ownership (possibly together with the seller); the seller files the notice of sale. It is one form; the procedure is ticked at the top.

What are the deadlines?

The seller notifies DGT within 10 days of the sale; the buyer applies for the change of ownership within 30 days.

Do I pay tax when buying a used car privately?

Usually yes: the buyer pays the regional transfer tax (ITP) before filing with DGT. Check the rate and procedure with your region’s tax office.

Can I do it without an NIE?

No. The NIF/NIE/CIF box needs a Spanish number: an NIE for a foreigner, a DNI for a Spanish citizen. DGT does not accept a passport number.

What is the “nuevo domicilio del vehículo”?

The buyer’s padrón address (empadronamiento): DGT sends notices there and the town hall charges the vehicle tax.

Why should the seller notify the sale?

While the car is registered to the seller, they may be held liable for its fines. The notice records the transfer date.

Can I file online?

Yes, at sede.dgt.gob.es with a digital certificate or Cl@ve; the paper form is used at a Tráfico office.
