What this document is

Mod.01 (“Trámites de vehículos”) is the official form of Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) for vehicle procedures: a duplicate registration certificate (permiso de circulación), a vehicle report (informe), temporary or definitive deregistration (baja), re-registration after a temporary deregistration, registration (matriculación), a temporary circulation permit, rehabilitation and notice of a habitual driver.

The form is in Spanish: one page to fill in and one page of instructions. FoxDocs types your data into the fields of the official PDF without changing its layout.

Who files it and where

  • the vehicle owner (titular) or their representative;
  • submit at the Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico with an appointment (cita previa); many procedures (report, duplicate, temporary deregistration) can be done online at sede.dgt.gob.es;
  • most procedures carry a DGT fee (tasa); check the current amount on the DGT website;
  • one form — one procedure;
  • a car being scrapped is usually deregistered by an authorised treatment centre (CAT), which files the baja itself.

What the form asks for

  • the vehicle: plate, date of first registration, VIN (bastidor);
  • the vehicle’s address — the owner’s padrón address: street type and name, number, block, entrance, staircase, floor, door, postcode, province, municipality, town;
  • the applicant: NIF/NIE, date of birth, phone, name or company name, surnames, e-mail;
  • the procedure and its option: reason for the duplicate, type of deregistration, reason for re-registration, type of registration (with service code and CEM/CEMA codes), type of temporary permit, plates for the report;
  • the habitual driver, if reported: NIF/NIE, name, surnames;
  • other remarks, place and date; signatures are handwritten.

Documents usually brought along

  • the Mod.01 form;
  • ID (DNI, NIE/TIE) — DGT does not accept a passport without an NIE;
  • the permiso de circulación and the ficha técnica, if you have them;
  • the DGT fee receipt;
  • in special cases (a duplicate after theft, a change of address) extra documents may be needed — see the procedure page on sede.dgt.gob.es;
  • check the exact list for your procedure on the DGT website.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Tell the chat in any language what you need to do with the vehicle and its plate.
  2. The assistant fills the boxes in capital letters, splits the address into the DGT boxes and ticks the procedure.
  3. Download the PDF, check it, print, sign and submit it to Tráfico.

Frequently asked questions

What is Mod.01 for?

For vehicle procedures: duplicate permiso de circulación, vehicle report, deregistration and re-registration, registration, temporary permit, rehabilitation and notice of a habitual driver.

How do I get a vehicle report before buying?

Tick “Informe de vehículos” and write the plate (up to 8 vehicles). The report can also be obtained online at sede.dgt.gob.es.

What is the difference between temporary and definitive deregistration?

After a temporary one (baja temporal) the vehicle can return to the road; a definitive one (baja definitiva) is permanent, e.g. when scrapping or exporting it.

What goes in the NIF/NIE/CIF box?

A Spanish number: an NIE for a foreigner, a DNI for a Spanish citizen, a CIF for a company. DGT does not accept a passport number.

Why report a habitual driver?

If someone other than the owner usually drives the vehicle, they can be named as conductor habitual, and traffic offence notices are addressed to them.

Can I tick several procedures?

No: one form — one procedure. Fill in another Mod.01 for a second procedure.

Can I file online?

Many procedures, yes, at sede.dgt.gob.es with a digital certificate or Cl@ve; the paper form is used at a Tráfico office.
