What this document is

STM.9 (แบบ สตม.๙, “The Acknowledgement of penalties for visa overstay”) is an official Thai Immigration Bureau form. By signing it, a foreigner confirms being aware of the re-entry bans that apply to those who stayed in Thailand after their permitted stay expired.

The rules come from Minister of Interior Order No. 1/2558 dated 27 November 2015 on classes of aliens ineligible for admission to the Kingdom, under the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979). The form is signed by the foreigner who overstayed. It is not an application or a receipt: the overstay fine is handled separately.

Re-entry bans printed on the form

If the foreigner surrenders voluntarily:

  • overstay of more than 90 days — banned from entering for 1 year;
  • more than 1 year — 3 years;
  • more than 3 years — 5 years;
  • more than 5 years — 10 years.

If the foreigner is apprehended and prosecuted: overstay of less than 1 year — 5-year ban, more than 1 year — 10-year ban.

What the form asks for

  • location (ที่ทำการ) and date of signing — the year in the Buddhist Era (พ.ศ.);
  • title (นาย/นาง/นางสาว — Mr./Mrs./Ms.), family name, given name, middle name;
  • age and nationality;
  • passport number;
  • signature — by hand.

What to have with you

  • the passport you stayed in Thailand on;
  • any documents the immigration officer asks for.

Check the overstay fine amount, how to pay it and the full document list with the officer at the immigration checkpoint or office handling your overstay or departure.
