What this document is

Form A (แบบ ก., “คำร้องขอจดทะเบียนสมรส”, Application for Registration of Marriage) is the groom and bride's application to the Registrar to register their marriage under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code. The marriage is registered at a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad.

The 3-page form is published on the website of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Page 1 is a bilingual table (Thai with an English translation): name, nationality, address, age and date of birth, place of birth, occupation and parents' names of each party. Pages 2 and 3 are the statements (บันทึกถ้อยคำ) of the groom and the bride in Thai; the groom's statement is written for the Royal Thai Embassy in London.

Who files it

  • a couple who want to register their marriage under Thai law at a Royal Thai Embassy (this version of the form is for the Embassy in London);
  • the groom fills in the “ชาย (Male)” column and the statement on page 2, the bride the “หญิง (Female)” column and the statement on page 3.

Who may register a marriage at the embassy, and whether another embassy accepts this form, should be checked with your Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate.

What the form asks for

  • the embassy (line “Royal Thai …”);
  • for each party: name as in the passport, nationality, present address, age, date and place of birth, occupation, father's and mother's names;
  • passport number and issuing authority, address in Thailand, purpose of coming to England, current address, phone;
  • whether a marriage was registered before: if divorced — where, when and under which number the divorce was registered;
  • for the bride — title นาง (Mrs.) or น.ส. (Miss); how long the couple have known each other.

What to attach

  • both parties' passports; for a Thai national usually also the Thai ID card and house registration (ทะเบียนบ้าน);
  • if previously married — proof that the divorce was registered;
  • any other documents on the embassy's list.

The form does not state the exact document list, translations, witnesses, fee or processing time — check them with the embassy before your visit.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Open the chat on this page and describe your situation in any language.
  2. Answer questions about the groom, the bride and their parents — the assistant fills all three pages, repeats the same data wherever the form needs it and converts years in the statements to the Buddhist Era.
  3. Check the fields and download the PDF.
  4. Print it and do not sign in advance: the parties sign at the embassy before the Registrar.

Frequently asked questions

What is Form A for?

It is the groom and bride's application to the Registrar of a Royal Thai Embassy to register their marriage under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code.

Where is it submitted?

At a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. The groom's statement on page 2 is written for the Embassy in London; ask another embassy whether it accepts this form.

What if one of us was married before?

Choose “divorce registered” and give where, when and under which number the divorce was registered. The form has no option for widowhood — ask the embassy.

Which script should I use?

Latin letters: names as in the passports, everything else in English. In the Thai statements the year is written in the Buddhist Era — FoxDocs converts it automatically.

Do we sign the form in advance?

No. The statements are signed at the embassy before the Registrar, as the form itself says.

How much does it cost?

The form does not state a fee. Check the amount and how to pay with the embassy.
