What this document is
WP.29 (บต.29) is the Department of Employment (DOE), Ministry of Labour, application for a work permit and its renewal for a foreigner under Section 64 of the Royal Ordinance on Managing the Employment of Foreigners.
Section 64 covers nationals of countries that share a border with Thailand who enter with a border pass or another document prescribed by the DOE Director-General, for temporary work in permitted areas. Which kinds of work and which areas are allowed is set by regulations — check with the employment office.
The form is in Thai with English captions and has 3 pages to fill in plus a page for official use.
Who files it and where
- the foreign worker named on the form (it is signed as “applicant”), together with the future employer, who provides the employment documents;
- the provincial employment office (สำนักงานจัดหางานจังหวัด) responsible for the area where the work will be done — check the address and who must appear in person with the office;
- the fee, the maximum permit period and processing time are not stated on the form — check them with the office.
What the form asks for
- title, name, nationality, date of birth, age, address in Thailand, phone and e-mail;
- the border pass or other document: number, issuer, country, dates; visa (if any), date and checkpoint of arrival, permitted stay;
- whether the person has had a Thai work permit before (number and province);
- type and nature of work, employer and its address, place of work, period applied for;
- ticks for the attached documents (section 4), date and signature.
Documents listed on the form
- copy of the border pass or of the other prescribed document;
- copy of the proof of permission to enter Thailand;
- medical certificate that the applicant is not of unsound mind and has no prohibited diseases (Section 64/1);
- three 3×4 cm photographs;
- copy of the employment contract;
- Employment Certification Form from the employer stating why a Thai national is not employed;
- employer documents: for an individual — a copy of an ID document, passport or certificate of residence; for a company — a copy of its business licence or registration showing the type of business.
The office may ask for more documents or translations — check the list with the office before filing.
