What this document is

EX-00 (“Solicitud de autorización de estancia de larga duración (LO 4/2000 y RD 1155/2024)”) is the official Spanish form to apply for a stay authorisation (estancia) of more than 90 days for studies, training, pupil mobility or volunteering, for its extension, and for permission to work while holding it. The form is in Spanish and has four pages: three to fill in and one with instructions.

An estancia is not a residence permit (residencia): time spent on it counts differently. FoxDocs only types your values into the fields of the official PDF and does not change its layout.

Who files it and where

  • a foreigner already legally in Spain who wants to study at a university or post-compulsory secondary school, take part in a mobility programme, volunteering or training activities (language assistant, Spanish or co-official language courses, preparation for specialised health training exams and others);
  • family members of a student, and a child born in Spain;
  • it is filed at the Oficina de Extranjería (foreigners’ office) of the province; an extension (PRÓRROGA) must be filed electronically;
  • from abroad the route is usually different — a student visa at the Spanish consulate; check with the consulate;
  • the fee is paid with form 790 (tasa modelo 790); check the code and current amount with the office or on the official website.

What the form asks for

  • section 1 — the foreign national: passport, NIE (if any), surnames, name, sex, date of birth (dd/mm/aaaa), place and country of birth, nationality, civil status, parents’ names, address in Spain, phone and e-mail;
  • section 2 — the institution or organisation: name, NIF, official registration (RUCT, RCD, university affiliation or other official recognition), centre code, address and legal representative;
  • section 3 — the programme: name, code, start and end dates, mode (in person or hybrid);
  • section 4 — the student being accompanied by a family member; section 5 — the employer, only if you also apply for work as an employee;
  • section 6 — representative for submission; section 7 — address for notifications and consent to notifications via DEHú;
  • section 8 — type: INICIAL (ticking the ground), PRÓRROGA or AUTORIZACIÓN PARA TRABAJAR (employee or self-employed); place, date, signature and the “Dirigida a” line.

Documents usually brought along

  • the EX-00 form, original and a copy, filled in in capital letters;
  • passport, original and a copy;
  • proof of enrolment or admission to the institution, programme or volunteering organisation;
  • proof of means of support and health insurance — check amounts and conditions with the office;
  • the receipt for the form 790 fee;
  • the exact list depends on the ground and the office — check in advance.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Tell the chat in any language where and what you study, the programme dates and what you need: initial authorisation, extension or permission to work.
  2. The assistant fills the boxes in capital letters, splits dates into dd/mm/aaaa and the NIE into letter, number and control letter, and ticks the right boxes.
  3. Download the PDF, check it, print, sign it by hand and submit it together with a copy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the EX-00 form for?

To obtain or extend an authorisation to stay in Spain for more than 90 days to study, train or volunteer, or to get permission to work while holding it.

Can I file EX-00 from abroad?

As a rule, from abroad you apply for a student visa at the Spanish consulate. EX-00 is filed in Spain by people already there legally. Check your case with the consulate or office.

Where do I submit EX-00?

At the Oficina de Extranjería of the province, usually with a cita previa (appointment), or electronically. Extensions are filed electronically only.

How much is the fee and how do I pay it?

The fee is paid with form 790. Check the code and current amount with the office or on the official website.

Can I work with a student stay?

Section 8 has an AUTORIZACIÓN PARA TRABAJAR box — as an employee (then section 5 on the employer is filled in) or self-employed. Check the conditions with the office.

Can a student’s family use this form?

Yes, there is a separate ground for family members of students, and the student’s own data go in section 4.

Can I submit a form filled in on a computer?

EX forms are submitted in the official model. FoxDocs types your data into the fields of the official PDF without changing the layout; you sign by hand.
