What this document is
“Solicitud de prestación contributiva” is the official form of Spain’s State Public Employment Service (SEPE) to claim the contributory unemployment benefit, commonly called “el paro”. It is paid from the contributions you and your employer made to Social Security.
The same form is used to resume a suspended benefit (reanudación) and to choose between an old and a new entitlement (opción por nuevo derecho).
Who can apply
- an employee who lost their job involuntarily (dismissal, end of contract) — including foreigners entitled to work;
- you need at least 360 days of contributions in the last six years and registration with the employment service as a job seeker (demandante de empleo);
- apply within 15 working days of losing your job — otherwise benefit days are lost;
- filing — on the SEPE electronic office or at an office by appointment (cita previa).
What to attach
- DNI, NIE or TIE (foreigners — a document showing the NIE);
- proof of the bank account for the payments: you must be the account holder;
- for children — the libro de familia or birth certificates, for foreigners with an official translation;
- the certificado de empresa — usually sent to SEPE by the employer.
SEPE must decide within 15 days; if there is no answer within three months, the claim is deemed refused.
How the form is laid out
Three pages: personal details, address, phone and e-mail, bank account (IBAN), children under 26, remarks; then date and signature plus a document checklist ticked by SEPE; the third page lists the obligations of a benefit recipient. FoxDocs types your data into the fields of the official PDF without changing the layout; the IBAN is split into the boxes and your name and NIE are repeated in the page 2 header.
